Lake Erie: January 23, 2010

 

East of Port Burwell: 3:00 PM. Cliff erosion. The soil is mostly light and sandy. A small stream - more a run-off spot through a farm field really, has clawed relentessly at the cliff face. There will be no stopping it.

East of Port Burwell: 3:00 PM. Odd to think that the face of destruction is so fascinating.   

Port Burwell: East Side - 3:15 PM. You can see the line of windmills along the cliff - set back far enough to give several years' service before the Lake claims them. Perhaps by that time we'll have learned to satisfy our hunger for power in a safe, renewable manner that doesn't destroy the natural beauty of the landscape.
