Lake Erie: July 10, 2010

Port Stanley: East side – 5:30 PM. The Lake is slurping away at the cliff and dragging the silt out into the water. Another hot day and more humid than yesterday but still almost 10 degrees cooler than earlier this week and will be great for sleeping. The air is clear enough to see the wind turbines along the horizon line.

Lake Erie: July 09, 2010

South End of Iona Road: 11:30 AM. After all that heat we did get rain. With a few showers through the night, around 4:45 AM it got serious and rained quite hard for about 1/2 an hour. Today it felt much cooler and there was a fresh breeze much of the day. With the sky being overcast, the oppressive sun of the past days was just a memory.

South End of Iona Road: 11:30 AM.

Port Stanley: Harbour – 9:15 PM. And then we get an evening like this!

Port Stanley: Harbour – 9:15 PM. Life is filled with delightful little gifts - you just have to be open to them. Look up now and then.

Lake Erie: July 08, 2010

Port Stanley: Harbour – 7:45 PM. Another hot, muggy, miserable day but it's getting murky now as the sun has dropped behind the clouds of what is advertised as a time of rain.

Port Stanley: Harbour – 7:45 PM. Clouds are edging in and the weather radar looks promising so maybe it really will rain and maybe the temperature will back off a bit. I'm tempted to insert a witty comment about pigs flying or the chances of a snowball on my front porch but what's the point? We'll just have to wait and see.

Lake Erie: July 07, 2010

Port Stanley: East side – 9:30 AM. Only supposed to be one more day of this oppression - then it drops all the way down to a high of 25 C. It's the lows for sleeping I want to know about.

South End of Graham Road: 4:00 PM. So much for panoramic views of the Lake. As I drove around working on my list of images for my County projects, I'd occasionally drop the windows down. There was quite a breeze but it was somewhat akin to a blow-dryer on full. It was expensive but I'm very glad I got the air-conditioner on the car fixed a few weeks ago. Don't often use it but am making all kinds of exceptions now.

Lake Erie: July 06, 2010

Port Stanley: Harbour – 8:15 PM. Pretty - yes but it's very hot and so humid I'm starting to feel like I'm living in the Lake not beside it.

Lake Erie: July 05, 2010

Hawk Cliff: 1:15 PM. Where's the Lake? The cliff edge is about 10 feet behind me. This field of beans stretches North to the trees. The big tree is an Elm - my favorite tree. There are few left now and they rarely make it to maturity because of Dutch Elm Disease, which has been ravaging them for decades. The full, rolling clouds growing into the sky beyond didn't deliver on the promise of a bit of rain to break the heat, if only for a short while.

Hawk Cliff: 1:15 PM. The view of Port Stanley from Hawk Cliff. Yes - really. Port Stanley is the slightly darker smudge across the middle of the image. The berm, tanks, pier and lighthouse are all there. Now you know why I took photos of the fields and trees.

Lake Erie: July 04, 2010

Port Stanley: East side – 6:30 PM. Hot and getting hotter and being able to see the air I breathe. I don't like this! A neighbour said he loved the heat. I told him he was welcome to my share but I don’t suppose it works that way.

Port Stanley: Harbour – 8:45 PM.
