Lake Erie: January 23, 2010

East of Port Burwell: 3:00 PM. Cliff erosion. The soil is mostly light and sandy. A small stream - more a run-off spot through a farm field really, has clawed relentessly at the cliff face. There will be no stopping it.

East of Port Burwell: 3:00 PM. Odd to think that the face of destruction is so fascinating.

Port Burwell: East Side - 3:15 PM. You can see the line of windmills along the cliff - set back far enough to give several years' service before the Lake claims them. Perhaps by that time we'll have learned to satisfy our hunger for power in a safe, renewable manner that doesn't destroy the natural beauty of the landscape.

Port Burwell: East Side - 3:15 PM. Same spot, looking west toward the pier.

Lake Erie: January 22, 2010

Port Stanley: Main Beach – 11:30 AM

Port Stanley: Main Beach – 11:31 AM. What’s amazing about this photograph is that it was taken about 20 feet to the west and at a 90 ° angle from the image posted above and just one minute later. Like I keep saying – Magic!

Lake Erie: January 21, 2010

Port Stanley: East side – 10:30 AM. The ice, carved by the persistent motion of the Lake, lies in mounds along the shore like the fossilized spine of a giant dinosaur.

Port Stanley: East side – 10:30 AM. The magic of images like this one are why I will never stop being drawn to this beautiful Lake.

Lake Erie: January 20, 2010

Port Stanley: East side – 10:15 AM. A day of glorious sunshine. Sparrows, juncos and chickadees are chattering away as they scour the undergrowth for any tiny morsel of food. There's warmth in the sun and almost no wind to give them a bit of an advantage toward survival.

Port Stanley: Harbour – 10:15 AM.

Lake Erie: January 19, 2010

Port Stanley: East side – 9:15 AM. The Lake is thickening in the cold. The light of the sun through thin clouds is very pale and gives the surface the appearance of an oil slick.

Lake Erie: January 18, 2010

Port Stanley: Harbour – 11:25 AM. Foggy again.

Port Stanley: East side at lake level - 3:15 PM. The lake is restless again even though the whole world is very still in the mist.

Port Stanley: East side at lake level - 3:15 PM. You can just see the swallow colony in the upper left corner.

Lake Erie: January 17, 2010

Port Bruce: 1:30 PM. The January thaw is here. The temperature has warmed to just freezing and with all the snow we've had, that means fog.

Port Bruce: 1:30 PM. The colours and patterns of a January day on the Lake. When all around seems dull, drab and not worth looking at, find delight in the fascinating magic of Nature.
